Fundraiser will help local family pay medical bills
PERRYVILLE, Ky. - Perryville residents are rallying together to support a local family.
Ed "Grizzly" Osborn, owner of Grizzly's BBQ food truck, recently was diagnosed with cancer. He and his family are in need of help with medical bills; so several friends and community members have organized a fundraiser and auction to help pay for the cost of his treatments.
The fundraising event will be Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Perryville Unit #301 American Legion Auxiliary, located at 428 W. Second Street.
Doors open at 11 a.m. The auction begins at 1 p.m. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase, and all proceeds will support the Osborn family.
Grizzly is known around town for his pulled pork and brisket. On most days, you can find his food truck on the corner of U.S. 68 and U.S. 150, near Merchants Row.
Vicki Goode, executive director of Main Street Perryville, said Grizzly's food truck has been a great addition to Perryville. His barbecue is popular among locals and visitors.
"When Grizzly first started setting up and selling his barbecue, we noticed the number of customers quickly increased and they had nowhere to sit," Goode said. "Main Street Perryville joined forces with Grizzly to purchase picnic tables so customers could sit and enjoy their meals."
As his popularity grew, Grizzly bought a larger truck in order to serve an expanding customer base, she said.
"You can always count on Grizzly to fire up his custom-made grill to serve residents and visitors during festivals, events and fundraisers," Goode said.
The entire community appreciates Grizzly's contribution to Perryville, which is why residents are passionate about giving back to his family, she said.
John Key, owner of Keys Nursery, has been a longtime friend of Grizzly and said he doesn't know anyone more caring.
Key said Grizzly became involved in the Lions Club and other Perryville community organizations soon after moving from Maryland about 20 years ago.
"He has become a permanent fixture in our little town," Key said.
Lisa Bottom, vice-president at Farmer's National Bank and Main Street Perryville board member, said it is important for residents to support the Osborn family.
"Grizzly has always been one of the first to volunteer to cook and help out when we have done fundraisers for other families," Bottom said. "We want to be able to return the favor to him and his family as they go through a very trying time."

Ed "Grizzly" Osborne, owner of Grizzly's BBQ food truck, has been diagnosed with cancer and he and his family are in need of help with medical bills. On Nov. 23, there will be a fundraiser and auction at the Perryville American Legion to help raise money for the Osborne family. Doors will open at 11 a.m. Auction begins at 1 p.m. If you have an item you would like to donate to the auction, please contact Lisa Bottom at (859) 583-9405. Food and refreshments also will be for sale, and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the Osborne family.
Come celebrate the holiday season in Perryville!
On Dec. 14, 2013, join us for the downtown Perryville Christmas Celebration. Start the day off by visiting the Perryville Elementary School Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a silent auction, arts, crafts, food, games and more!
Next, tour several beautiful homes during the Tour of Historic Homes, 1-5 p.m. The tour begins at the Perryville Community Center with a trip through the Merchants Row Museum. Guests will tour five historical homes around Perryville and will finish with a tour of the Karrick-Parks house where refreshments will be served. Tickets for the tour are $15 per person, and can be bought in advance at Main Street Perryville; Farmer's National Bank in Perryville; or the Danville-Boyle County Convention and Visitor's Bureau, 105 E. Walnut Street, Danville. Tickets also will be sold the day of the event.
After the historic homes tour, stick around for the Perryville Christmas Parade at 6:30 p.m. Click here to download parade entry forms and rules, or pick them up at the Main Street Perryville office, 216 S. Buell Street.

near Pottsville, in Washington county, near the Boyle County line. He was 31 years old. This was a small action on the day before the Main Battle.

Perryville celebrates Crain Day
On Sunday, Nov. 10, Perryville residents gathered for a dedication ceremony honoring Arthur "Chick" Crain for his service as Perryville fire chief for 50 years. The A.L. Crain Lane - an alleyway that runs from Smith Street to Polk Street - was named after the former fire chief and was unveiled to the public during the ceremony. The city also recognized Clifford "C.P." Crain and Geraldine Crain Harmon, author of "Chaplin Hills," for their contributions to the community.

Don't let Christ be your Rock Tumbler
Several years ago my wife and daughters got me a Rock Tumbler for my birthday. It was a sincere gift that was just a little bit of a joke because I had wanted one since I was kid and talked about it from time to time about how I wanted it. I was so excited when I received and was very touched. However, I was very busy then and didn't get a chance to open up and set up. Time passed and I said I would eventually get out and set up. Today I found and just as I had left, it was unopened. Christ gives us the great gift of Forgiveness and Salvation. But, it is up to us to open, accept, and utilize that Salvation. Don't wait till the gift gathers dust.
